Like many gardeners, you may be asking yourself, what is the difference between an arbor and a pergola? While there isn't a clear consensus on this, generally an arbor is a smaller structure with an arched top, usually standing 6 1/2 to 9 feet tall at the peak. Arbors are often placed over walkways or a gate in a fence. A pergola, on the other hand, has a flat top that is directly perpendicular to the straight sides it rests on. Pergolas can range in size from small enough to just cover a walkway to large enough to span a deck or patio area.
Wrought iron fences are great if you want some funky designs on top of your fence. Wrought iron is a strong and beautiful fencing material. They are great as a security measure since they are virtually indestructible. Wrought iron fencing have only one disadvantage, like wood fencing, they also require constant upkeep to prevent discoloration and rusting. You will need to repaint your fences at least once every two or three years.
Wood fencing may be a good choice for its aesthetics but on a more practical level, wood fences best serve two principal functions: privacy and durability. For these two important uses, several wood fence designs may be used:
The main benefit of an electronic fence is there is no physical structure visible on the property. Wires are placed a short distance below the ground and a small control unit is mounted somewhere in the house, typically in the garage. Your Bichon Frise wears a collar with a small battery operated transmitter attached. If he crosses over one of the wires marking the acceptable boundaries of the yard, a small electrical current emits from the transmitter on his collar, and he receive an unpleasant feeling like a small shock.
